  • Not like any church you've been too...VIP breakfast is awesome

  • So far so good- because of God moving through one person in fellowship. Very grateful for her and our conversation

  • Today, another church in the Alexandria area, I won't say who, sent people to go through my neighborhood knocking on doors. They asked me if I "wanted to go to heaven." I had always been an atheist because of confederate flag toting, Fox-news watching, false-rhetoric speaking people who have soiled religion for me. I told them I already attended Grace Community Church. The woman's response was "well I'm not trying to get you away from your church, but trying to get you to heaven." It was incredibly creepy and invasive. Grace is the exact opposite of that.

That interaction prompted me to write this review about Grace, because I am so grateful to have found this church. I had stopped going to church completely in 2015, after I tagged along with a friend to a sermon in DC, and the guest pastor went on an anti-gay rant after the SCOTUS opinion was issued.

Grace exhibits true Christianity in my opinion. Their motto is "a church for people who don't go to church." You can stop by as you please. There is no collections before+ after the sermon-- just a box at the door in case you feel like giving. Everyone present is open to partake in communion- there are no "others." There is no judgement. They're non-denominational. And there is a table every Sunday just to welcome newcomers. There's plenty of charity work to give back to the community if you want to sign up. It's age and racially diverse. No one looks at you funny. They don't make comments like "we've never seen you here before." The pastor has done a great job setting the stage for an atmosphere of openness and inclusion, and often addresses the very real and painful events plaguing our world today (including police brutality). In return, the place has attracted like-minded progressive attendees who are also looking for a safe space to worship. For someone like me who generally wants to be left alone and is still exploring faith, this is the perfect place.

If you are a progressive, open person, I would highly recommend checking Grace out.

  • I am currently trying to find the right church, went to this one and had a great time. Highly recommend it to people who go to church and those just seeing if it's for them!
